Finding Grace in the Journey
“Humble people make grace look easy.”
- Bob Goff
Oh my goodness those words are convicting me this week. I’ve been struggling to find any grace for myself or for those around me. I’ve just been so...angry! Well probably more tired than angry. It might sound silly but I feel every bit like a little toddler who needs a nice LONG nap! I’m so grateful for the life I’m living and all the adventures this season has held, but some weeks balance eludes me.
Over the past two weeks I made 3 trips to Vegas (two that were totally unexpected) and a trip to Iowa…all while working my day job and trying to keep things running at home. Between the packing and unpacking, airport adventures, and checking in and out of hotels, I got majorly run down this week. My tank dried up, I felt like I had nothing left to offer and give to myself or anyone else.
When I’m running on empty I tend to quickly revert to a hard exterior solely focused on survival (sometimes I end up just trying not to yell at anyone I see while inhaling ALL the caffeine I can get my hands on). One of the many sad things about this type of tired existence is I become super self-focused, and I lose out on the beautiful blessing of really seeing those who God has placed in my path with a purpose.
So I’m trying to slow down this weekend and take time to reflect on the beautiful people I’ve been able to love during my journeys and all of the beautiful experiences I’ve been enjoying this Spring.
My first (of 3) trips to Vegas within the last two weeks was to visit the beautiful Valley of Fire about a hour from the Strip. I’d been wanting to visit for a long time and I was not disappointed...it was all sorts of stunning! I’m working on a blog post to tell you about some of my favorite spots here, but for now I hope you’ll enjoy these images Nate captured when we found a sweet spot to pop up the rig after hiking a stunning, fiery trail.
When we travel to new places there are plenty of unknown variables. From weather to terrain, we never know what a location will hold (which is part of the fun and adventure).
This particular trip the weather was every kind of perfect…not too hot and not too windy, and the park was quiet, almost to the point of desolate in some areas (which we enjoy). There’s nothing like having a private picnic out in the middle of a 40,000 acre national park.
After our hike, we set up the rig and did some shooting…but then we just took a break to enjoy all the beauty around us. It’s such a blessing to fly in these beautiful environments, but it’s also a gift to be able to sit back and quietly enjoy nature together.
So even if I got a little (...well a lot) grumpy and worn down this week, I’m very grateful I had the opportunity to make memories and enjoy this magical place with someone I love.
My prayer for you (and for me) this week is that we will find grace, for ourselves and for those around us, in the journey.
Happy Friday friends!
How do you find grace on the days you’re tired or stretched thin?
